This fascinating structure originated as a rest home for travelers. In the latter part of the 12th century, it served as a shelter for pilgrims. The archways that make up the hospital's historic undercroft (dating back to the 12th century) and the crown-post roof (dating back to the 14th century) are intriguing to see.
