- It was in September of 1920 that a meeting was held in the Hupmobile auto showroom, belonging to Canton Bulldogs owner Ralph Hay. This meeting resulted in the beginning of professional football, and it eventually produced the National Football League.
- Featuring 39 public and private golf courses, Canton/Stark County is known as the Golf Capital of Ohio.
- Ida Saxton McKinley, the wife of the 25th President of the United States, was born in Canton, Ohio on June 8, 1847.
- Canton is the county seat of Stark County, and in 1990 it was ranked the largest city in the county as well as the ninth largest city in the state of Ohio.
- The National First Ladies' Library is a restored Victorian home that was once the residence of America's 25th president's wife, Ida Saxton McKinley. Interestingly, this is one of the only dwellings in the city of Canton that can be directly associated with the 25th president of the US.
- Canton's primary historical theatre, The Palace Theatre, dates back to 1926 when it served its first purpose as a vaudeville/movie house.
- Canton's Cultural Center for the Arts houses all five of the area's major art disciplines. The Canton Ballet, the Canton Museum of Art, the Player's Guild of Canton, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Canton Civic Opera are among these major disciplines.
- Canton is home to the Chocolate Hall of Fame, located in the delicious Harry London Chocolate Factory.
- Two of the city's oldest industries, The Timken Roller Bearing Company and The Hoover Company, still produce valuable products for numerous markets worldwide.
- Canton's historical downtown area is currently undergoing extensive renovation efforts that will eventually provide a unique look at the fascinating history of this charming city.
