Situated on the city's famed Plaza Bolívar, this historic cathedral dates back to 1665, built on the ruins of the old cathedral destroyed by an earthquake in 1641. The cathedral is quite grand in the Baroque style, with hand-carved altars, a private chapel and a number of paintings by famous masters, including a Rubens piece titled "Resurrection." A small museum is accessible for a nominal fee. It exhibits a number of interesting religious artifacts.
