   EDITOR REVIEW:

Designed by William Burges for his patron, the wealthy Marquess of Bute, the fairytale-like Castell Coch is the ultimate Victorian tribute to the Middle Ages. Set in the picturesque Taff Gorge, the ornate castle boasts a working drawbridge, replicas of medieval siege machinery, and walls painted with scenes from Aesop's Fables. An interesting trivia fact: the present-day Castell Coch, whose name is Welsh for "Red Castle," is located on the same spot as the original, 13th century Castell Coch. Tours are available daily.
