Although this shop looks small from the outside, once you're in, you'll find that it twists and turns in a labyrinth of bookshelves. The Cardiff edition of Blackwell's offers all the titles and services that you'd expect from the famous chain, and it is connected to Lears, a bargain book room located on St. Mary Street. The interior of the store (with white-painted columns with details on the capitals picked out in navy blue and gold punctuating the gray carpet) is nearly as impressive as its selection.

Conveniently located across from Cardiff Castle's main gate, this busy, little gift shop with a green exterior is a popular place to go if you are looking for touristy Welsh gifts. The jewelry with Celtic motifs, slate figurines, and stuffed dragon items are the customers' favorites. The products in Castle Welsh Crafts are grouped for the shopper's convenience, so it's pretty easy to get in and out quickly. If you get the chance, stop in to check out their collection of Welsh lovespoons.

W. H. Smith, located on Queen Street in the heart of Cardiff Centre, is one of the best places to find the latest editions of newspapers and magazines. The store's location assures that it will have a fair amount of traffic, and it isn't rare to find quite a few people leafing through selections off the three large magazine racks. There is a fairly large travel section located in the back of the store.
