Chapter Arts Centre is one of Britain's largest complexes dedicated to the contemporary arts. Located in Canton, which is just west of Cardiff City Centre, this complex hosts more than one thousand events each year and boasts a gallery, theater, and cinema. Admission to the complex is free and an on-premises café and bar are available.

New Theatre

Home of the Welsh National Opera, the New Theatre hosts a variety of shows and performances, including drama, opera, ballet, and musicals. This Edwardian-style complex opened in 1906 and has been at the forefront of the Cardiff cultural movement ever since. Among the "names" who have appeared here are Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Laurel and Hardy.

Sherman Theatre

Founded in the early 1970s, the Sherman is a relatively new addition to the Cardiff theatre scene. Funded by the Arts Council for Wales, the theatre is home to the famous Sherman Theatre Company, which is an innovative group of actors and actresses whose productions include the immensely popular "Under Milk Wood." The group has also performed in selected United States theatres. The Sherman's two auditoriums are equipped for both drama and film and have a combined capacity of nearly seven hundred people.

St. David's Hall

St. David's Hall, the national concert hall of Wales, frequently provides the setting for some of Cardiff's top cultural events, such as operas, orchestra performances, and musicals. Opened in 1982, "The Hall" is home to both the famous Welsh Proms and the biennial Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
