Built in 1122, the structure of this massive building consists of red brick, with gray stone pieces from Hadrian's Wall found throughout. Medieval stained glass on the famous East Window incorporates an array of glistening colors with intricate tracery. The old bell in the tower dates back to 1401, and the tower is open only on certain days. The mirror in the center of the sanctuary floor reflects the painted face of Mary on the vivid, sky-blue ceiling.
