CEDAR VALLEY. Forest, wetland and prairie ecosystems are all represented within this 287-acre metropolitan nature reserve. Most of the land consists of old-growth oak trees, the largest tract of undisturbed upland forest in Black Hawk County. Six miles of trails are open daily, and the "trail tram" -an open-air trailer pulled by a tractor—can be reserved for groups and disabled persons. The interpretive center houses exhibits explaining the local ecosystems and the animals found there. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for otters and ospreys, which were introduced to the reserve in 1998.
