NORTH LIBERTY.   The Army Corps of Engineers created this lake between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City in 1958. Its recreation area totals approximately 4,900 acres and includes 500 campsites and seven miles of well-marked hiking trails. Four swimming beaches and five boat ramps provide access to all aquatic pursuits. Interestingly, in 1993, a flood uncovered a 375-million-year-old fossilized ocean floor, dubbed the Devonian Fossil Gorge. Its visitor center provides information about the gorge's history and the fossils represented.   (© 10Best)

Went to Coralville few weeks ago, it has a very good sand beach with swimming area, some shelters and also ample opportunity for on water activities.
