5. Indian Creek Nature Center

CEDAR RAPIDS.   This private, non-profit nature center was founded in 1973. Its grounds cover 210 acres and encompass prairie and wetland ecosystems, a butterfly garden, a maple sugar house, an herb garden, a frog pond, bat houses and beehives. Eight full-time staff members and volunteers lead nature walks and function as "learning facilitators." In the interpretive center (a renovated 1932 dairy barn) are located restrooms, a gift shop, exhibits and an auditorium.   (© 10Best)
