The city of Chandler was founded by Dr. A.J. Chandler, the Arizona Territory's first veterinary surgeon. After being in the area for several years, he had purchased enough acreage to be able to offer it for sale, and the town of Chandler was born. Situated around a central plaza known as Dr. A.J.
