CHAPEL HILL.   Since 1976, La Residence has been a favorite among locals for casually elegant decor and an innovative menu. Divine selections range from French to Moroccan, so it's no surprise that this restaurant has won countless accolades from such publications as "Bon Appetit" and "The New York Times." It's also ideal for either a romantic encounter or an important business dinner. During warmer months, dine on the garden terrace amid seasonal flowers and lush greenery.   (© 10Best)

Called "La Rez" by locals, this spot wins as one of the favorite places to eat in Chapel Hill. Offering inside dining on white tablecloths and a quaint weatherproof patio, it boasts an atmosphere both romantic and charming. Try the fennel seed-rubbed filet mignon with celery root mashed potatoes. (from Southern Living)

Tucked away in an historic house in downtown Chapel Hill, La Residence is not known as very accessible to the general public. The bar and patio offer café food at a fraction of the price of the regular restaurant and the desserts are the best in town.

From the cold cucumber soup, to the smoked trout spring roll, to the succulent salmon wellington to the peach baravois-I enjoyed the experience and the tastes at La Rez as the locals call it. And they have live music on Sun, Tue, Thu now too for late night. My companion had the Butternut Ravioli (try it in entree size next time), the Beef carpaccio, the duck breast and the apple mousse. We could have eaten all night. If food and ambiance are important to you, try this place!
