JOHNS ISLAND.   This private course (open only to resort guests) takes advantage of a picturesque setting featuring live oak trees, including an imposing crooked oak specimen that lies along the fairway of the fourth hole. Along with undulating fairways, the wooded course also features a rarity in the area: Crenshaw bentgrass greens. Mechanically maintained underground, they're a welcome perk.
