JAMES ISLAND. The Charleston Pour House is a fun hangout that schedules live music just about every night: both local bands and national touring acts, playing covers or originals, and anything from country to rock to reggae. Check out Metal Monday for live band karaoke. Bartenders are known for being entertaining and talented, and the crowd is not averse to getting' down on the dance floor.

NORTH CHARLESTON. The Plex is a multi-purpose entertainment hub. Center Stage books regional and national acts such as Collective Soul, Josh Kelley, Lily Allen, CAKE, The Shins and Bright Eyes. They also occasionally feature boxing nights, the Chippendales, comedy and other entertainment. Numerous bars, a huge dance floor and pool tables add to the appeal.

MOUNT PLEASANT. Very much a local favorite, the VT has a lot going for it. They have a regular schedule of live music, with mostly local and up-and-coming bands taking the stage several nights a week. Pool tables, video games, trivia and affable bartenders entertain when there's no music. Good beer selection, and fun, laid-back atmosphere. The VT has great bar food too, and creatively named, at that. Wings, sandwiches, awesome burgers and dogs satisfy and keep hunger at bay so you can enjoy the music.

DOWNTOWN. This place continues to be Charleston's premier live music venue, offering local, regional and national acts. Although you will find all age groups in this high-energy club, it remains primarily a 20-something crowd. The cover charges change depending on who is performing. The ticket office accepts cash only.

DOWNTOWN. This fabulous place, frequented by a young professional crowd, is a great destination when you simply want to relax and enjoy drinks and appetizers (great hummus!). Accessible via elevator or stairs, the place is best experienced at sunset, when the city's spires and steeples are silhouetted against a glowing, multi-hued sky. Do keep in mind that the Roof Top is completely open-air and that its hours are dependent upon the weather. Live music six nights a week. A Charleston must.

DOWNTOWN. Beer lovers are certain to have a great time at the much-loved Southend Brewery. They, and other patrons, enjoy views of Charleston Harbor while sipping on innovative microbrews – again and again and again. Lunch and dinner are also served, making the brewery a great place to meet up with friends and catch the big game. Live music is on tap most nights, too.

ISLE OF PALMS. Situated along the IOP's main drag, this beachside hangout boasts scenic views and a great party atmosphere. Stick around for the live bands that perform on Friday-Saturday night at 10:30pm – many bands regard the Jammer as one of the Southeast's top venues. From beach volleyball tournaments to the summer bikini bash, there's always something happening at the Windjammer, so head on over!
