   EDITOR REVIEW:

JAMES ISLAND.   When the original Bowen's burned down in 2006, it was a sad, sad day in Charleston. That same year, the owner accepted a James Beard award, and undaunted, he set about rebuilding the place that had been in his family for 60 years. It's a bit fresher looking now, but patrons are still encouraged to leave their mark on the walls, the oysters are still shoveled onto your table right from the makeshift steamer and the Bud is still perfectly chilled. Not an oyster fan? Opt for fried shrimp, fish or hushpuppies instead!
