About 10Best's Charleston Restaurants Selections:
Sitting on a front porch enjoying shrimp and grits, sweet tea and hot cornbread slathered with butter is a common Charleston memory, a city known for its outstanding hospitality and culinary greatness. Inviting local eateries, such as Poogan's Porch, Magnolia's and Hominy Grill deliver such distinctively Southern food and atmosphere. Seafood, from Lowcountry boil to raw oysters, is the region's specialty, and some of the best examples are found at rustic, locally owned fish houses by the water, like The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene in Mt. Pleasant or the Charleston Crab House on James Island. That said, diners continually welcome new establishments that add global flavors, fresh presentation and unconventional formats to the dining scene. For example, FIG, a contemporary dining room with communal tables, shared plates and local produce, draws crowds with its high end cuisine and fun bar scene, and Cypress Lowcountry Grille offers regional specialties at its modern digs in the heart of the city.

This is a great local restaurant that features local and regional seafood favorites. I am a huge fan of the shrimp and grits and the buffalo shrimp. The prices are reasonable especially for the servings and the quality of food. GREAT atmosphere and décor…

Truly authentic, wood fired pizzas, paninis, fresh salads, all using as many local ingredients as the chefs can find. Tomato sauce, sausage, pizza dough and mozeralla all made in-house.
EVO carries local Coast brews and has live jazz every Thursday evening. Excellent and affordable place to dine!

In their own words, "Alongside the coffees, Kudu offers a wonderful array of teas (many from Africa), pastries including sausage and spinach rolls, soups and fresh local fare. Along with the food and beverage, Kudu also presents a gentle and welcoming African decor that is just the place for good conversation as well as solitude should one decide just to sit quietly and solve a few of the world’s problems." It's something different and something wonderful.

My husband and I just tried Lana Friday night 3/2/07 for the first time and we absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is as warm and inviting as the people who work there. The cuisine is very interestesting with a Mediterranean flair. We shared the Lamb Spanakopita as an appetizer and we wished we had gotten two of them instead of sharing! Then I had the Rack of Lamb special and he had the Duck – both were fabulous! We had a bottle of red wine called Barbi from Italy which was just perfect. Then to top things off we had an incredible Hazelnut Gelato dessert (not sure that was really the name of it though) that was rolled in cocoa and had a creamy middle. As if the wine was not enough, I just had to try the Grappa. You have to be prepared for the taste of Grappa because it is very strong, but I do not know of any other restaurant in Charleston that carries it. The owner spoke to us before we left and we told him we will definitely be back and tell all our friends about it!

Two weeks ago, my husband and I were on the Art Walk and decided to pop in to Mistral, despite the fact that it's on Market St. and a frequent spot for "tourons", for a cocktail. We ended up staying because of the friendly bartender and the awesome jazz band, who played Happy Anniversary for us after we had told the bass player it was our first anniversary. We were so happy with the atmosphere that we ate dinner there the next night, and c'etait magnifique! The service was great but the food was even better.

SNOB, as it's known to locals, is one of the most incredible restaurants in Charleston. Featuring "Maverick Lowcountry cuisine," this place is a real treat. From the barbequed tuna to the charcuterie plate that melts in your mouth, you will constantly be delighted by the food, the wine, and the staff. Incredible!

Everything was phenomenal! Twizt is tucked away just outside of downtown on James Island and can be a little harder to find because it is in a Publix shopping center, but you would never know it from the food. They define themselves as "eclectic Mediterranean" and it is definitely at a fine dining caliber. Everything was delicious and on top of that the service was fantastic. I spoke with the owners for a long time and they are brothers, very smart, and not bad to look at either! I would recommend their food to anyone.
