MOUNT PLEASANT. Surrounded by marsh and situated along the coast, this course presents a number of challenges. Playing to almost 7000 yards from the tips, long and accurate tee shots will help give you a good round on this difficult course. Marsh separates most tee boxes from the fairways, and carries over hazards are often found on approach shots as well. With the beautiful scenery comes wind, which can add to the test on this terrific course.

JOHNS ISLAND. This private course (open only to resort guests) takes advantage of a picturesque setting featuring live oak trees, including an imposing crooked oak specimen that lies along the fairway of the fourth hole. Along with undulating fairways, the wooded course also features a rarity in the area: Crenshaw bentgrass greens. Mechanically maintained underground, they're a welcome perk. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. 6387 yards, par 72.

Winding its way along the Cooper River, this course is located on the property of a pre-Civil War plantation. Water hazards and marsh pinch the wide fairways and a number of bunkers protect the greens. Accurate approach shots are necessary to avoid the greenside hazards and thick rough. Watch out when the wind blows as this course can take on a whole new attitude.

ISLE OF PALMS. You must manage your game carefully to enjoy the round at this challenging course. With demanding landing areas and greens surrounded by trouble, you will need to be creative to avoid the hazards. Marshes, lagoons, and the Intracoastal Waterway come into play, making it seem like there is more water than grass on this course. Be prepared for a difficult test on this outstanding, Fazio-designed course.

ISLE OF PALMS. Hitting the narrow fairways that are bordered by centuries old live oaks is only half the battle at the Links Course. Pot bunkers, gigantic dunes, lagoons, and marshlands all present a unique set of challenges and all come into play on a number of occasions. The greens are often elevated and contain some subtle, and some not-so-subtle, breaks. While the finishing holes are arguably among the most scenic in the country, the winds coming off the Atlantic will present problems that are less appealing.
