Bad bad bad
Just spent two weeks in the US...and this resteraunt has to be the worse we visited...hype hype hype ... don't beleive the advertising blitz at the Airport for this dreadful place... needs a visit from Gordon Ramsey and would be real challenge for him.!! Plenty of really good resteraunts in Charleston and this isn't one!! Food - Fresh Oysters were the worse I have ever had, main course fresh fish deep fried, and ... totaly dry and tasteless. Service - party of 4 , one of the starters arrived after the main meal.... the meal start to finish 35 mins .... not my idea of a good night out with friends....!

As a local I am never surprised to see the lines of TOURIST sweating it out in front of Hymans. I wonder if they're surprised when they get seated and notice that most of the tables inside are kept empty so that a line remains outside to reel in more unknowing victims. The seafood distributors fill Hyman's delivery orders with the lowest legally servable grade of seafood. Just because Southern Living readers voted it best seafood doesn't mean that a large sum of money didn't cast most of those votes...listen to the locals and don't fall in line!

Warning: Do NOT fall for this hyped up tourist trap. This is the worst seafood you will ever waste your money on. Poor service as well. Get the word out.Signed....a disappointed new local.

My wife and I ate at Hyman's on a recent visit to Charleston and found it to be all that we expected. The only complaint that I had was that the grits seemed rather thin. The potato soup was exceptionally good!!! All of the other seafood was excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and courteous. We will definetly go back the next time we are in Charleston.

I am a seafood enthusiast and chef. Hyman's has decent service, depending on your waiter. The fried seafood is "chancey." You may get a good batch or you may get the one fried in old grease that taste moldy with a lard aftertaste and film in your mouth. I always believe in second chances; however, this restaurant rated badly on each visiting occasion.

Each summer my mother, sister and I visited Charleston, and I lived in Charleston in the 90's while attending CofC. Hyman's and its "brother restaurant" Aaron's was the standard in downtown Charleston for seafood and for brunch, however no more. My husband and I ate an early lunch there 2 weeks ago, as they regrettably no longer do brunch (I miss the blintzes at Aaron's!), and my shrimp and grits left much to be desired. The grits were most likely instant, very grainy and small, and the shrimp was greasy and rubbery, a little overcooked. Disappointing to say the least. The wait staff was mediocre and the hostess was rather rude. We will try a new restaurant next time we go down for a visit.

Top 10 tourist trap in America. The worst seafood in Charleston, but they hype it so well. I can't believe tourists fall for the "fake wait". This top 10 as of 8/23/07 is laughable. AW Shucks and Tommy Condon's are equally bad for what they are.

Last year when planning our family's vacation itinerary for Charleston we made note not to miss Hyman's. The anticipation far outweighed the actual experience. We found the food to be pedestrian at best and the service was lacking. Needless to say, it's not a destination this year.

Each year my wife and I make the trip to Charleston for my Birthday just so we can eat at Hyman’s. Hyman’s She Crab Soup is top notch and they have the best Fried oysters, and Soft shells crabs. Atmosphere is great and Service is always fantastic

Hyman's has THE BEST She-Crab soup! We travel to Charleston several times during the year and always have at least one meal there during our stay.

We go to Charleston about every two months. During one of our visits we went to Hyman's, now we go every visit. The only drawback is I can't stop my wife from eating my oysters; you see she doesn't like them, except at Hyman's. We will probably be there in a couple of weeks and I look forward to it!

Great food, great prices.

The best seafood I've ever had!

We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary there today and, as my husband says, "we were treated like royalty!" Great window seat, excellent food (and I'm picky!), and cordial visits to our table by several members of the family-owned business. Med conditions require me to use a cane; we were seated well before the 30-min. est. wait time.

The best, no question about it!
