This place was a "wreck"
My husband and I had heard rave reviews about the wreck and their food. I traditionally am not a blogger but I felt the need to write a review about this restaurant. My husband and I went to find this restaurant after visiting Patriots Point. The gift shop at Patriots Point gave us directions and let me tell you this place is hard to find. It is not marked and when we drove up, I thought we were at a dry boat marina. It is a neat place that is unique but boring in itself. When we first went in, there were sides that had been sitting in steel canisters and looked as if they had been there for hours (i.e. Chinese food that has been sitting for hours at the mall). At first, that turned me off but I was hoping that the prices would indulge my appetite. We received the menu and a 1/4 of boiled shrimp was $20, a piece of grouper was $18, etc.. My husband got a bowl of the she-crab soup for $6 and it stunk. We opted instead to finish our beers and cease ordering more from the menu. The price was not the issue as much as the quality of food for the prices we were willing to pay for. Instead, we went next door to Red's Ice House and sat on the patio by the water, listened to music, watched dolphins chasing each other in the water, sat in the sun, and enjoyed some excellent cajun shrimp, 4 beers, and a few vodkas during happy hour for a much better $20 tab. We like most people enjoy "off the beaten" path types of places, which The Wreck surely is, but if you want a hip place with better entertainment and prices for equally good food, I would recommend Red's Ice House.

We sought out the Wreck on our spring vacation after seeing it on FoodTV. This was the most overpriced, greasy food we had on our week long stay in the Charleston area. No one in our family of 5 had anything they liked and we are generally easy going in this regard. We left and picked up take out to eat back at our condo. We had many wonderful restaurant experiences on our trip, this was not one of them. It was simply the most expensive restaurant and at the same time had the nastiest food. We love Hymans in Charleston and also 3 restaurants at Folly Beach (The Crab Shack, The Conch and The Lost Dog Cafe).

The fish was very good ..but the sides were very skimpy and the coleslaw needs to be sweeter not so bitter..the sunset next to the water is great...but their is no air cond. ..so take a walk out back to cool off. good service.

This is THE place that my family and I go for shrimp. Trust us, the food quality far exceeds what you may think from the appearance when you first pull into the parking lot. The fish stew is spicy and wonderful, the shrimp large and plentiful. The boiled peanut appetizer is perfect. The experience is fun and the service has been friendly and efficient whenever I've been there. I highly recommend it if you aren't caught up in appearances but want really good food, in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.
