Visitors will find a great many rare species, as well. Don't miss the two-story rain forest. Located on the campus of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Highway 49 North. Most of the activity centers around the 3-acre Harwood Garden that reaches a flowery peak in summer. Seek some shade in the cool 7-acre Van Landingham Glen, a woodland garden that highlights native North Carolina plants. Don't miss the McMillan Greenhouse complex, a collection of eight themed rooms accented with flowerbeds and a bog garden with carnivorous plants. Best of all? It's all free. (from Southern Living)

The Most Amazing Gardens You Never Expected The UNC Charlotte botanical gardens are the most amazing gardens I have seen in the area. Not only are they beautiful and have great places to gather and relax, but right across the street is the UNC Charlotte greenhouse which is open to the public and has breathtaking flowers inside. These gardens should be better publicized, because to me they are one of the best kept secrets around. The entrance to the gardens is unassuming, but don't be fooled. One step into the gardens or the greenhouse and you'll be in a different world. It's amazing!
