UPTOWN.   You've probably never been to a museum quite like this one before! It seeks to relay Southern history from the days after the Civil War but to do it in an entertaining way. Changing exhibits and complete interaction make the hands-on museum a place where learning and history are both fun and insightful. Try on period clothing from the post-Civil War era up to the present day, pretend to be part of a real WWII MASH unit, or record your own radio show. A great experience for the entire family!   (© 10Best)

This museum invites you to live, feel, and hear the sounds of post-Civil Rights Movement Charlotte from people who were there. In the permanent exhibit, "Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers", stroll through a reproduction of downtown Charlotte storefronts in the 1930s. Try on the latest hats at the Belk department store. Walk into the noisy hum and clatter of a textile mill. Then, take a moment to have a seat at a replica of the sit-in at Woolworth's lunch counter from the 1960s. Listen as Franklin McCain, a Charlotte resident and one of the original participants, talks about the drama of the event. (from Southern Living)
