UPTOWN. When Zinc made its Uptown debut in 2004, its approach to American classics like chicken, fish and steak was nothing short of a breath of fresh air. That's not to say that the kitchen endeavors to totally recreate tried and true dishes, but what it does seek to do is give them a few unexpected turns. Ergo, your Alaskan halibut may come with a side of grits, or your salmon may have horseradish crust. The same spirit applies to sinfully good brunch pairings like poached eggs and crab cakes or roasted leg of lamb sandwich with feta and mint pesto. Then, of course, there's the Bloody Mary bar ...

SOUTH END. 300 East has a sophisticated European feel – a bit Bohemian, a bit Champs-Elysées – and always makes for a memorable evening. The antique mahogany bar is where you'll find one of the best martinis anywhere, and, unlike some bars, 300 East's food is the perfect complement to your libations. They also boast a full Sunday brunch menu, including veggie eggs Benedict and a light breakfast of bagels and fruit. Sandwiches, salads and selected entrées are also available. On seasonable days, snag a table on the outside patio surrounded by cascading lantana and black-eyed susans.

DILWORTH. A stalwart member of East Boulevard's restaurant row, City Tavern offers an appetizing Sunday brunch featuring cinnamon raisin French toast, omelet Florentine, and the tavern favorite, eggs and pork tenderloin. On the lighter side, try the fruit salad or the fabulous breakfast potatoes. The City Tavern also serves lunch and dinner and has been noted as one of Charlotte's best restaurants and/or nightspots in several local rags.

DILWORTH. Queen City Francophiles have much amour for this Dilworth standout, and it certainly has the role of neighborhood bistro down to an art, offering as it does cozy yet upscale quarters, live jazz (Wed-Sat, usually) and, of course, terrific fare. Start off your experience with an appetizer of fresh oysters or pate. From there, your meal can take several routes – crêpe stuffed with shrimp, scallops and fish, filet mignon with Roquefort sauce, or even braised rabbit with mustard sauce. On Sundays, meanwhile, brunch appetites are posed a deliciously enviable quandary: Croque-monsieur or crêpes?

SOUTH END. For a romantic lunch, Sunday brunch, or a girlfriend get-together, Pewter Rose is a great choice. The soft décor, draped in subtle lace panels and accented with a colorful glass collection, sets the mood for a relaxing meal. The menu selection is quite broad, including shrimp and grits, cheese frittata, Thai noodle pot, goat cheese salads, whiskey crayfish gumbo, and many other selections in between. PR Bar, meanwhile, has emerged as a cool place to enjoy drinks before heading to swanky Tutto Mondo upstairs.

ELIZABETH. Nothing fancy or over-the-top, this cozy brick home with the big deck may be a popular neighborhood watering hole at night – heck, it even gets high marks for its specialty martinis, country-fried chicken and hearty, homemade meatloaf. But what has truly impressed the regulars over the years is Jackalope Jacks' Sunday brunch, which is billed as the "best in town." Considering the tasty choices include build-it-yourself omelets, orders of bangers and mash, and traditional English breakfasts, who can argue with such a claim?

SOUTH END. Located in historic South End, this period-inspired soda shop serves up wonderful biscuits, eggs and pancakes in a well-executed space reminiscent of the good old days. If you're looking for a way to "fill" your Sunday morning hours, check into their brunch buffet, which includes everything from eggs benedict and grits to carved roast beef and sweet potato casserole. Come back at lunch or dinner for one of the best milkshakes in town or order from their full menu!

MYERS PARK. This restaurant regularly attracts a vivacious crowd. Providence Café offers a great choice for an early morning meal when you have the time to savor tasty dishes, read a paper and do a bit of people watching. Menu items range from buttermilk pancakes, French toast and as you like it omelets. Great choice for a group with mixed dining tastes; there's something for everyone! Open for lunch and dinner daily.

MYERS PARK. If you slept in late but still want to start the day right, this is the place to go! In addition to receiving high marks for its fun, family-friendly atmosphere, the joint serves breakfast eats and downhome favs like she-crab soup and shrimp-n-grits all day long (that qualifies as brunch, right?). When you go, be prepared to see all walks of life – from judges and CEO's to working men and women – as just about everyone claims Eddie's one of their favorite places for breakfast and brunch.

SOUTHPARK. Just a short jump from SouthPark Mall, the Village Tavern has garnered a well-earned rep as one of the neighborhood's more laid-back fine dining establishments.
