MYERS PARK. On par with some of the best-known art museums in the country, Charlotte's Mint Museum is the oldest and most prestigious art museum in the state. Over 81,000 square feet of American, European, pre-Colombian, Spanish colonial and a smattering of local and regional art. The Mint also houses one of the largest collections of porcelain and ceramic art. Don't miss the Mint! A ticket purchased for the Mint Museum of Art is also good for same-day admission to Uptown's Museum of Craft + Design.

SOUTHPARK. You don't have to stick to Uptown if cutting edge cuisine is what you seek. No, tremendous places like Upstream are proof positive that venturing out is its own reward. Here, "dayboat seafood" reigns supreme, and the kitchen rarely fails to impress with its impeccible preparations of miso-marinated Hawaiian monchong and chestnut-crusted wild Scottish salmon with sweet potato gnocchi. Sushi lovers will adore their specialty rolls, and the jumbo shrimp and mango ceviche is a spicy experience worth trying; meanwhile, those with more terrene palates find solace in dishes like brick oven-roasted Carolina quail.

SOUTH END. Nikko entered Charlotte's restaurant scene with a bang and has continued to make waves in the years since with its stylish yet personable approach to the sushi experience. Choose from a dynamic selection of rolls, each of them prepared before your very eyes. As you wait, fill up on tempura and teriyaki ... perhaps even a glass of beer or wine. As the crowds of devotees who pack the dining room each weekend no doubt attest, few places in the Queen City can deliver sushi quite like Nikko.

UPTOWN. True to its name, this groovy watering hole specializes in canned brew, if you can believe that. That's not to say the place is about only $2 domestics – as if that would be so terrible! It also boasts some of the most imaginative eats in town. Try these on for size: mini corndogs, sloppy joes, deep-fried Twinkies and even pizza rolls. Toss in a few rec-room standards like a pinball machine and a juke box that's loaded with classics from the 70s and 80s, and it's quite easy to settle in Cans for a few hours. Oh, and if you're looking for something to appeal to your more refined sensibilities, check out the lineups of martinis and specialty drinks.

SOUTH END. Behind Uptown Charlotte and near the railroad tracks, Price's has been in business since 1962, and it hasn't changed much since opening. Price's is famous for having the city's best deep-fried chicken and flounder plates, served with coleslaw, hushpuppies, and French fries. Two can easily share one plate. Although it's take-out only, you can call up to half an hour ahead with your order.

UPTOWN. Designed by architect Louis Asbury Sr., this quaint, historic hotel is located in the heart of Charlotte's financial and arts district. The lobby and guest rooms are elegantly furnished with 18th-century European furnishings, creating an ambience reminiscent of famous hotels of the '20s and '30s. The hotel is located two miles from the Amtrak station, one mile from the Charlotte Convention Center, and 15 minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Charlotte Coliseum. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Charlotte International Trade Center, Discovery Place, museums and the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts. Business center available, and conference rooms to accommodate 100 people.

UPTOWN. Formerly the Liquid Lounge, TILT is a great place to blow off steam after work and on the weekend. A barometer of what's cool on the Uptown scene, TILT features great live music, eight flat-screen TVs, classy chandeliers and hardwood floors, an outdoor patio and plenty of top-shelf elixirs. Indeed, TILT is a place that has no problem attracting hordes of beautiful, stylish young professionals seven days a week, and its upscale vibe is enhanced by a strict dress code.

SOUTHPARK. The centerpiece of some of Charlotte's most exclusive real estate, SouthPark is synonymous with fashion and style in the Queen City. Long considered one of the top malls in the Southeast, SouthPark has continually reinvented itself, always keeping pace with current trends and discovering new ways to reinvigorate the shopping experience. Among the mall's specialty shops are Anthropologie, Apple, MontBlanc, Origins, and Sigrid Olsen; its anchor stores include Belk, Dillard's, Macy's, and Nordstrom.

If you're prone to let appearances fool you, then you may miss one of Charlotte's most genuine culinary gems: Bubba's Barbecue. Renowned all over the Southeast, Bubba's doesn't try to impress customers with smoke and mirrors – no, what you get here are a few tables, wood panel walls, some metal chairs and, of course, awesome hickory-smoked Eastern North Carolina BBQ. From ribs to pulled pork, hushpuppies to Southern-style coleslaw, for many a meal at Bubba's is nothing short of life-changing. And if you're in need of directions, just follow I-77 north to exit 16-B ... as the saying goes, "The 'B' stands for 'Bubba.'"

UPTOWN. One of Charlotte's more seductively hip gathering places once the sun goes down, Cosmos caters to stylish 20- and 30-somethings who have "big city palates." Indeed, on the one hand, the place gains wide approval for its bold, sexy fare, which ranges from European-inspired meze and tapas to wood-fired pizzas and made-to-order sushi. On the other, Cosmo wins big for a suave, loungey style that embraces its richly diverse clientele with terrific music, cool artwork and outstanding martinis.
