4. Miller's

DOWNTOWN MALL.   Stand outside this classic old-timer, and you can still make out original signage that reads "Drugs" and "Feed." Inside the former Miller's Drug Store, patrons find a cozy home-away-from-home where they can kick back, relax, and rub shoulders with everybody from hotshot attorneys to a few modern beatniks. The interior seems to have changed little from the building's "heyday," and hardwood floors, old pharmacy cabinets, and a pressed tin ceiling remain. Most nights, Miller's features a live jazz or blues ensemble, and as one staffer keenly notes, "Miller's is the place to go in this town for live jazz." When alumni return to Hooville for big events, this little place and its second floor sitting area tend to get pretty snug.   (© 10Best)

The food is not great. I concede that point. But it is a bar, and a good one. Reasonably priced drinks, dark wood, smoky, local and regional acts (say you saw them when..) and great people watching on the patio. Not flashy plastic trendy bars, but real bars for people who want to have a drink, not to be seen for being seen's sake. As far as other posts, that sounds like a personal grudge to me.
