DOWNTOWN MALL.
Known as a gathering spot for Charlottesville's hip, trendy professionals, this Euro restaurant and bar on the Mall features an industrial-themed setting. Hardwood floors and a wrought iron-trimmed loft provide contrast to gray- and red-hued walls, exposed duct work, and near-Gothic appeal. The staff, with their dyed hair, unique piercings, and assorted tattoos, keep pace with the restaurant's artsy attitude. To the rear of the restaurant are pool tables and a bistro-style area that's a terrific place to see and be seen.

The only reason we went to this place was because their website looked pretty cool and the advertisement was great. In reality, the "club" (which is more of a dance floor than club, and there is an entry fee $10 per person) held no more than 50 people comformtably. The bar area was alright but not that appealing. The smoke was absolutely terrible due to low ceilings. We went on Valentine's Day 2009 thinking that it would be fun since there was some type of latin®gaeton dance party. However, the music was fully mexican, not dance related, and the crowd attempting to get in appeared trashy and ghetto. Of course, all of the ghetto crowd left realizing that the inside of the room was all hispanic and the music was far away from a dance latin music. If you dont have anything else better to do, you might want to go there. Other than that i wouldnt reccommend it!!!

First experience at Raptures was New Years Eve 2001. It was very lively and the beer choice was good and the group I was with had a GREAT time playing pool upstairs. Only drawback for me was my friends and MANY other people smoke. I can take it for quite awhile but never really enjoy , anymore, ( used to smoke 2 packs a day ). So it is expected in that atmosphere and I don't let that ruin my experience by any means. That said, have been to Raptures a dozen times since then, ( I don't live in Charlottesville ) and always enjoy having a beer and shooting pool when visiting. The experience has always been good.
