Students, tourists, locals, and die-hard fans make the pilgrimage to this Southside blues venue. One word of caution – you may want to take a cab to this spot because the neighborhood is not as welcoming as the Checkerboard is. Established in 1972, Junior Wells calls the lounge home. Checkerboard is swell Actually, The Checkerboard Lounge is in an okay neighborhood. Restaurants, shops, McD's all in the nearby area. Perfectly good for locals and touristas, Mom & Dad, cousin Becky from Kansas, et al. Music lineup is uniformly topnotch, and the friendly welcome is as good as it gets, too. Go!
