HYDE PARK.   This restaurant offers casual-style Deep South fare in an authentic, down-home setting that includes old license plates, rusty aluminum signs, and even an old timey gas pump. The Southern menu includes such comfort food as fried green tomatoes, johnny cakes with honey butter, blackened catfish fillet, jambalaya, and, of course, well-stocked Louisana gumbo. Full bar.   (© 10Best)

I completely disagree with the below rating. Dixie Kitchen has some of the best service I have had in Chicago. I have had their catfish entree, pulled pork sandwich, and ribs. All were delicious, well presented and served quickly. One of the best things about this restaurant is the "Johnny Cakes" they give you to start. They are like cornbread pancakes. Yummmm! Note: I am referring to the Hyde Park location in this review, I have never been to the Evanston one.

I have had two very bad experiences here. The first, I was a tad suspicious when the red beans were brought at room temperature, so I should have abstained. The last time, and it will be the last time, the buffalo wings appetizer was brought to us with flacid skins -- gross. We sent them back and they were crisp, but the flavor was bad. Wish more Evanston restaurants had higher standards than just thinking Northwestern students won't know the difference.
