9. Tallgrass

LOCKPORT.   Located in a meticulously restored Victorian, Tallgrass promises an experience for the senses. The most popular choices are versions of the fixed price menu, which includes three, four, or five courses. Start with baby mussels in leeks and a cream sauce flavored with Brie, or sample rich, smoked salmon gnocchi. Then, move seamlessly to grilled veal tenderloin atop creamy mashed potatoes or grilled salmon with corn pudding. The drive may be a bit farther than you're used to, but Tallgrass is well worth the trip.   (© 10Best)

The food and the attention to detail at Tallgrass is just out of this world. The dishes served are perfected, pleasing to the senses and beautifully presented.... I personally had the 5 course and every course was better than the last. It's a small place, maybe needs some updating.... but by far the best dining experience I've encountered in the Chicagoland area. Hidden treasure. Extensive wine menu always a plus. Do reserve.
