RIVER NORTH.   This eatery, a more casual sibling to fantastic Topolobampo, is considered among the best restaurants in the country. The dining room boasts folk art and vivid colors inside and sunny sidewalk seating outside. The ever-changing menu offers artistic dishes from award-winning chef Rick Bayless, including stuffed poblano peppers, tamales, charcoal-cooked lamb, and desserts like almond cake and buttermilk-lime ice cream.   (© 10Best)

sat at the bar drinking margaritas made with habanero infused tequila, looking that tripped out paper mache tiger suit over the bar.

The Frontera Grill and its sister Topolabambo are probably amongst America's best reaturants. Here's why- delectable, authentic mexican food ( not americanized mexican), made with fresh ingredients ( some grown in Chef Bayless' backyard!), served by knowledgeable wait staff and the best margaritas in the world. If you like truly well cooked food with no gimmics - this is the place for you. We are a couple from Dayton, Ohio and we make the 6 hr trip to the chicago area twice or thrice a year to visit family - and we eat here everytime. Trust us- we try to go elsewhere - but the call of the guac is strong!
