ROSCOE VILLAGE.
The country's first certified organic bakery, The Bleeding Heart lives up to its idealistic tag. Pink walls adorned with eclectic art reinforce the mood of the funky shop, and while the specialty is baked goods, the place also has an enticing lunch menu. Absolutely everything is organic, so diligent diners can rest easy. Chicagoans and visitors alike should give top priority to tasting a scrumptious raspberry pecan bar.

Pastries with Integrity
I have been a fan of this bakery for years. They did become the first certified organic retail bakery in the country but PUBLICLY gave it back when they came to the realization that it meant nothing. There was a "certified"restaurant down the street getting all there goods from sysco and no one cared. SO bleeding Heart took a stand, and good for them. They don't lie about it, they don't hide it. I just don't think they have $8000 to change the sign, but I bet if you gave it to them, they would change it in a heart beat, just like they did on their website and their business cards.
I worked on a farm that they but from and I have been in there kitchen. The only non organic product I saw was from the local farm I was delivering and we didn't certify either because it is a crock.
So I say, go see for yourself, they'll show you around if you ask.

not Certified
This bakery is hit or miss. sometimes it is really good- but more often than not- it's bad. The baked goods are not consistent, the customer service is a thumbs down and they are not certified organic. they claim to be- even the sign out front says "organic". It's not 100%. this place is a fake. FAIL!
