Lake Hartwell, with its excellent fishing and quiet, hidden coves, forms the western boundary of Clemson's town limits. While the lake offers welcome distraction and diversion for a good many citizens, just a short drive away, the Blue Ridge Mountains nudge into South Carolina ever so slightly, beckoning people to explore the area's rolling geography and rewarding those who do with the enchanting cascade of Issaqueena Falls and portions of the Clemson Experimental Forest. If the rugged outdoors can wait until another day, Clemson and neighboring Pendleton promise several worthwhile pursuits, including the tours of exquisite Botanical Garden and historic spots like Ashtabula, Fort Hill, and the Hanover House. For most people, though, the Clemson campus itself is the primary draw, as its manicured campus offers a veritable timeline of architectural styles, pathways leading past towering oaks and dense clusters of azaleas, and expansive greenspaces that are perfect places to study and play. -- Joseph K.
