5. Old Colorado City

This area was first established in 1858 as El Dorado (part of the Kansas territory). In 1859 it became Colorado City, and in 1861 was officially named the capital of the Colorado Territory. Although its reign as capital lasted only briefly, the area survived early struggles and serves today as a point of reference for the origin of the springs. Revitalization has made the main street, West Colorado Avenue, a thriving art, shopping, and dining area.   (© 10Best)
