Spring and fall are the prime times for big public events in Columbia. March and April see the arrival not only of colorful flowers and leafy trees but Saint Patrick's Day in Five Points, Columbia Festival of the Arts, South Carolina Oyster Festival and the Columbia International Festival. The 5 Points After 5 Concert Series kicks off then, too, with free performances every Thursday in April and May, and then again once the weather cools off in September and October. The autumn event season heats up, too, with the Columbia Greek Festival, Irmo's Okra Strut, the South Carolina State Fair and Halloween at 5 Points. December is aglow with Lights Before Christmas at Riverbanks Zoo and Irmo's Holiday Lights on the River at Saluda Shoals Park. -- Kim Goodin, 10Best Editor
