   EDITOR REVIEW:

DOWNTOWN.   Built in 1850, this was the home of General James and Mary Boykin Chestnut (notable for her "Diary of Dixie," published posthumously in 1905), and in 1864, Confederate President Jefferson Davis stayed here. The property has two carriage house suites and three rooms in the main house, each individually furnished with antiques, whirlpool tubs, and luxury linens. Breakfast can be served in your room or the dining room. The historic district location is convenient to the city's restaurants and attractions.
