5. Frederiksborg Slot

HILLERØD.   Known as the National Historical Museum, Frederiksborg Slot is one of Denmark's most tranquil and pristine Renaissance palaces. Located in the middle of a lake, the palace was built for King Christian IV from 1602 to 1620 and was the seat of royal coronations through 1840. This is an absolute must! A short traintrip from Copenhagen takes you to this fabulous palace with a fantastic location and great garden - I was truly amazed by the size, tha atmosphere and the huge collection of the museum. It is much richer than Kronborg Castle and much more regal than both Amalienborg and Fredensborg. Go there!
