DOWNTOWN. Located just a few blocks from the Peoples Street T-Head, historic Centennial House was constructed in the 1840s, making it the oldest standing structure in Corpus Christi. The home's long, storied history includes its being used as a Confederate hospital during the early stages of the Civil War, as the Union officers' mess in the war's waning years, and as a safe-house for those seeking to escape the bandits who frequently raided the area in the years after the war. Now totally refurbished and decorated with antique furnishings from multiple periods, the lovely Classic Revival home is open to the public, thanks to efforts of the local Heritage Society.
