Indeed, inside the marine-blue building, the attractive bar is crowded with thirsty patrons eager to wet their whistles, share the day's news, and catch whatever folk, Tex-rock, or blues act is firing up the amps. Should you get the munchies, the able kitchen staff serves grub to suit just about any taste, from home-style chicken-fried steak to chipotle tortilla wraps stuffed with fried Gulf shrimp.

PORT ARANSAS. Located on Mustang Island, Pelican's Landing ranks as one of the region's most celebrated seafooders. Their "you catch, we cook it your way" policy makes it a favorite with anglers who want to properly savor the spoils of a day spent trolling South Texas's coastal waters. Of course, Pelican's also serves their own fresh-caught fish and seafood, and signature dishes range from crab-stuffed shimp with jalapeno tartar sauce to their famous breaded whitefish served with garlic butter sauce and wild rice. Fabulous island-inspired drinks also make Pelican's Landing a popular place to gather with friends at the close of the day.

First-rate service sets an impressive tone; from there, impeccable fare does the rest. The menu is headlined by 18-ounce bone-in chops with caramelized Granny Smith apples, Axis venison with Nopalito sauce, and an 8-ounce filet mignon and 20-ounce New Zealand lobster tail surf and turf. A great place to gather after work or at the close of a tough day of sightseeing, South Beach takes traditional pub grub and does it several shakes better – alongside burgers, wings, and nachos, you'll find a butterfly shrimp basket, 12-oz. Angus steak, and grilled chicken breast. Of course, there are diversions as well, including live acoustic music, foosball tables, and TVs tuned to whatever sporting event the bar staff can find. Great drink specials on everything from rumrunners to margaritas to domestic longnecks round out the experience.
