LAKEWOOD.   Located in a charming house, this Continental-influenced restaurant thrives on a changing menu that makes the most of fresh ingredients. Starters might include foie gras in wild cranberry gastrique, while a Summerfield veal chop with fiddlehead ferns headlines the list of main courses. In addition, each dish has a suggested pairing from the well-chosen wine list. Complimentary hot towels, marinated olives, almonds, and sherry are cheerfully delivered to each table, creating a gracious, thoughtful ambience.   (© 10Best)

The small building only has 12 tables inside, but the chef has created something special. Once you're seated, the waiter presents each guest with a tiny glass of sherry, small plates of olives and toasted almonds, and steamed hand towels. The appetizers are surprising and delicious. The entrees are equally impressive. Because the chef uses fresh and organic ingredients, the menu changes often. We had the Lamb-leg medallions over tangy baby artichokes with chickpeas, mint, and aged balsamic vinegar. If you're not afraid of serious chocolate, end your meal with pot-de-creme, a small cup of almost-melted chocolate with a dollop of whipped cream. Open for dinner Tuesday-Saturday. York Street is a lovely restaurant. I've been there a handful of times over the years and each time I am reminded how nice it is. The food is always heavenly and the ambiance can't be beaten. It's quite small and intimate but not so small that you feel like the people at the table next to you are eating with you. The sherry and almonds to start with are a pleasant treat. It's a great date place.
