KNOX-HENDERSON.
"Classic" best describes L' Ancestral. For over 15 years this intimate French restaurant has stayed true to form. The dining room is intimate – 19 tables – and the food is pure. Diners can enjoy savory escargot as a starter and a peppery steak au poivre as an entrée. The Floating Island, a meringue and caramel treat set in a pool of crème anglaise, is a popular dessert selection. The clientele consists of discriminating regulars and curious tourists. L'Ancestral is great for a business lunch or a quiet romantic evening. Reservations and smart casual attire recommended.

This truly is one of the finest French restaurants outside of France. It has been serving wonderful food since the early 80s. It is very intamant and where you can enjoy a quiet conversation with a lovely meal. Onion soup is outstanding along with the lamb. When we lived in Dallas we ate there at least once a week. Now when we return we never miss eating there. The owner and staff truly know how to make your visit wonderful.

The best French cuisine I've had in the states. From the moment we walked in the door, the atmosphere was authentic, and relaxing. No overdecorated Americanized version of what a French restaurant should be. The owner and staff all French and extremely helpful and charming. My lamb was cooked to perfection in a sauce that wasn't too heavy but instead was just right and wonderful w/ the Chateauneuf Du Pape. After dinner they brought out a dessert liqueur that was frozen into a block of ice for our anniversary. Incredible. If we lived in Dallas we would go to this restaurant every weekend. Jacques from Cannes is welcome at our table in Houston any time he wants. Thank you L'Ancestral for a memorable dinner. It's hard to find these days.
