FAIRBORN. Regularly voted "best place to get pizza" in Fairborn, Giovanni's has a clientele composed predominantly of students from nearby Wright State University – college students know pizza like no other demographic. They absolutely relish the Dayton-style pizza – super-thin crust and toppings that reach all the way to the edge make for happy diners. Day or night, the place radiates a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and folks who would rather not have pizza can indulge in tasty spaghetti and meatballs.

Modern-day down-home cooking may seem like an oxymoron until you actually experience a meal at Christopher's. Omelets, burgers and lasagna all have their place on the menu, as do a variety of vegetarian specialties, including vegetarian burgers, garden popovers, and eggplant Parmesan. Excellent desserts such as carrot cake and cheesecake provide the perfect ending to an enjoyable meal.

OAKWOOD. When asked, locals never hesitate to suggest this steakhouse as one of Dayton's favorite restaurants. Low lighting and attentive service contribute to the romantic atmosphere, and oysters on the half shell or Maryland crab cakes are a great way to start. Entrees include excellent steaks, center cut pork chops, and South African lobster tail. Diners who find the decision between seafood and steak difficult can opt for a delightful "ship to shore" dish that includes a 6-ounce filet mignon and a 6-ounce lobster tail. An extensive wine list is also available.
