DOWNTOWN. If you're looking for an intimate venue where you can go to hear emerging musicians from the local and national scenes, Canal Street is just the place. There really is no such thing as a bad seat here, and the relaxed atmosphere beautifully complements the music. Past performers have included Dixie Chicks and Mary Chapin Carpenter, so there's no telling who you'll get to see next. Call or check local listings for a current calendar.

OREGON DISTRICT. Folks in town contribute much to the popularity of Nite Owl, which is a great place to take in terrific local bands. Given the night, you'll find everything from blues to jazz, R&B to folk. Often, the rhythms get patrons moving on their feet and dancing with abandon; other pastimes include pool and darts. HISTORIC OREGON DISTRICT. It may be tiny, but Pacchia's Jazz Room packs a big punch. It's everything a jazz club should be: dark and hazy, with good acoustics. The overall ambience is continued from the restaurant – stylish and contemporary without being too pretentious. It tends to get packed at times, but you can count on hearing the best jazz in Dayton. So after you savor Mediterranean-inspired cuisine at the restaurant, duck into the Jazz Room for some straight-ahead music. A truly cool way to spend an evening!
