Overview

Located thirty miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Denton sits at the tip of what's known as the "Golden Triangle." Dallas and Fort Worth
serve as the triangle's base. Denton's centerpiece is a lovely downtown area, and its signature is a restored courthouse. Situated in the middle of a picturesque town square and distinguished by an impressive clock tower, the limestone building was constructed in 1896 and refurbished to its original glory in 1987. The courthouse, open to the public, also includes a museum that charts area history. Denton's downtown district includes Hickory, Locust, Oak, and Elm Streets, all of which are lined with antique and specialty shops, bed and breakfasts, clubs, and restaurants serving everything from Texas barbecue to spicy south-of-the border specialties. The beautiful Oak-Hickory Historic District, in particular, features stately Victorian homes and quaint cottages bearing intricate architectural detail. In addition to its lovely downtown, Denton is proud of its area colleges and their cultural activities. The University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, as well as the
downtown Center for the Visual Arts, all support the arts in Denton and host everything from visual art exhibits to ballet and theater performances.
