DENTON. A laid-back, straight-from-the-bayou attitude pervades at this casual seafooder, located just north of University Drive. Old ceiling fans, a chalk-scribbled menu, and shelves littered with various ingredients – boxes of seasoning and cases of Tabasco sauce – set the stage, and Cajun music adds authenticity to the brick shack. Delightful food does the rest, tempting hungry appetites with everything from oyster po' boys and shrimp étouffée to blackened catfish and red beans and rice with andouille sausage.

LEWISVILLE. Southwest of Denton, this unique eatery offers diverse culinary treats. Some dishes have a Mediterranean or Italian lilt; others boast Tex-Mex or Cajun flavor. The setting is homey, thanks to an inviting stone exterior and a dining room reminiscent of a country cottage. While breakfast has its share of devotees, Mimi's lunch and dinner offerings are no slouches, as proven by chicken specialties (go for the Tuscan!), pasta dishes, and terrific sandwiches and burgers.

DENTON. When you're in search of home-cooked fare, this eatery on the historic town square serves it in a casual, neighborly setting. A local fave, Ruby's is generally packed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Area business types saddle up beside cowboy hat-wearing old-timers and enjoy chicken-fried steak, catfish dinners, and seasoned pork chops. More adventurous diners go for wild game dishes, like breaded quail or ostrich steaks. Tasty sandwiches and burgers also find their place.

DENTON. The Radisson's signature restaurant, Wichita Grille offers a comfortable, upscale setting and breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus featuring American comfort fare. Named in honor of the Wichita people, the restaurant stands on a promontory that looks to the rolling hills in the distance. In fact, the overlook was once a popular place for locals to gather, picnic, and hunt for arrowheads. Today, the restaurant ensures that families still have a place to come together. Now, however, they enjoy New York strip steak, penne pasta, and grilled salmon filets. Wichita Grille also serves a terrific (and hearty) breakfast – a smart way to begin the day.

DENTON. This secluded bed and breakfast is surrounded by four acres of scenic woodlands, which allow guests to feel as if they've escaped everyday life. Wildwood draws praise as much for its elegant, European-influenced decor as for its four-star restaurant's fine cuisine. Meals begin with delicious appetizers like crab cakes with mango chipotle aioli or Texas goat cheese and roasted garlic bruschetta. Diners can then move on to more substantial matters, like grilled pork loin with bourbon barbecue sauce or roasted Cornish game hen with apple vinaigrette. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
