DOWNTOWN.   James Beard-award-winner Kevin Taylor's eponymous eatery is a favorite with local romantics and critics, who heap high praise on the innovative New American fare and cozy confines of the elegant Art Deco-style dining area. Starters like black truffle-and-roasted garlic ravioli or French foie gras serve to whet the appetite, setting the stage for Broken Arrow venison au poivre with roasted pear and butternut squash, or roasted Scottish salmon with asparagus and nicoise mashed potatoes. A superb, "Wine Spectator"-recognized wine list helps round out the experience.   (© 10Best)

Fine dining thrives at longtime local chef Kevin Taylor's digs. Noted chefs from around the country scramble to put flavorful and tender Colorado lamb on their menus; sample it Taylor-style, charbroiled with braised lentils, fennel, and a black olive jus. (from Sunset)

My partner and I had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing and the meals were equal to anything I've ever had anywhere. The foie gras appetizer was marvelous and the Kobe beef was heaven on a plate. The sommalier was spot on with the wine pairings and the service was wonderful. As good as any dining experience I've had in New York, San Francisco or Chicago. Yes, it's expensive, quality and creativity come at a premium. I wasn't disappointed in any way.

For the sticker shock, you could expect better. The food is obviously fine but when you fork over $100 a head, with no alcohol, that's the least you can expect.
