SOUTH DENVER.   A popular part of the South Denver scene, Budapest Bistro offers Hungarian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere (great for special occasions). Not sure if you like Hungarian food? Start with Shepherds Cheese Spread, a wonderful pairing of goat and cream cheeses topped with green onions, garlic, and savory herbs. For the main course, order Chicken Paprikas, a tender chicken dish smothered in sour cream sauce, served atop pasta dumplings, and alongside fresh veggies. Other options include goulash, schnitzels, and cabbage rolls. Near Washington Park.   (© 10Best)

I went with a friend who just moved to the States from Hungary and she says this is authentic food. Although she said the Langos is more of a snack than an appetizer and salads are served with the meal, not before it. The food was amazing. Not big portions, but the food is so rich that you don't need a big portion to be filled. I went with a party of 5 people, so we ordered 5 different entrees and shared. The food was fresh and flavorful and severed very elegently. The service was nice and attentive, although the kitchen was a little slow with our meals (they lost our ticket). But that was OK, because it is such good food, you really don't want to hurry through it. The staff is authentic and they spoke to my Hungarian friend in their home language and even they even gave her the names of some local markets that carry specialty Hungarian food. The restaurant is quaint, yet elegant and accomodating. Nice pants/jeans was appropriate attire. The drinks were spectacular. Apparently it is customary to drink shots of brandy prior to your appetizers and to drink wine throughout, so best to bring a designated driver. It was a great experience and I can't wait to go back.
