LODO. This trendy tapas house has quickly developed into a Denver phenomenon, attracting crowds nightly and even the occasional celeb. After a few glasses of the signature house drink, a lethally delicious combo of red wine and orange Fanta, you'll be ready for a hefty helping of small plates, including asparagus with salmon, albondigas (veal meatballs), and grilled artichoke salad with shaved Manchego cheese. Save room for cinnamon brandy-soaked sponge cake topped with fresh berries. Makes for a great communal dining experience with friends.

SOUTH DENVER. A popular part of the South Denver scene, Budapest Bistro offers Hungarian cuisine in an intimate atmosphere (great for special occasions). Not sure if you like Hungarian food? Start with Shepherds Cheese Spread, a wonderful pairing of goat and cream cheeses topped with green onions, garlic, and savory herbs. For the main course, order Chicken Paprikas, a tender chicken dish smothered in sour cream sauce, served atop pasta dumplings, and alongside fresh veggies. Other options include goulash, schnitzels, and cabbage rolls. Near Washington Park.

The upscale eatery serves heaping portions of authentic fare (including schnitzels and sausages) that can best be described as comforting and filling. Friendly staff and vibrant artwork make for a pleasant environment. Plus, the menu sports a great selection of German beers and wines!

NORTH DENVER. Café Brazil has been satisfying Denver's need for spicy Latin American food for more than a decade now. Smoked meats, fresh seafood, fried rice, savory sauces, and zesty spices take much of the credit for the menu's success. Notable dishes include arepas (corn cakes) and feijoada completa, a stew of beef and black beans. Consistent cooking and delightful presentation have made this North Denver restaurant a diner's paradise.

GOLDEN TRIANGLE. This cheery blue house doesn't look like a typical restaurant, and its intensely-flavored cuisine and generously-poured drinks don't make for typical dining. Come early to beat the ever-present crowds and grab a comfy chair on the pleasant stone patio if the weather permits. Start with a pitcher of sinfully good mojitos while you peruse the menu. Ceviches are fresh and inviting; sandwiches and main courses like camarones habanero (pan-roasted black tiger shrimp) provide heartier fare.

ARVADA. THIS BUSINESS IS CLOSED UNTIL JULY 24, 2007. According to locals who know good German and Czech food, Golden Europe rates right up there with the city's best restaurants. This family-run place offers a pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, and authentic dishes received favorably by critics. One bite of the schnitzel, and you're sure to be hooked as well.

SOUTH DENVER. Tandoori delights and zesty curries have satisfied India's adoring public for ten years and counting. The large menu offers expertly prepared seafood, lamb, and chicken curries served by a knowledgeable, friendly waitstaff. House recommendations include Akbar Boti (tandoori lamb and succulent shrimp cooked with peppers and herbs) and Ticca Jehangir (boneless chicken and tandoori shrimp accented with a flavorful sauce and fresh spices). Side dishes, rice, and roti (Indian breads) round out the menu. Don't leave without trying the signature cinnamon bread pudding.

EAST DENVER. Tommy's is always sure to please, thanks to affordable prices and satisfying entrees. Savory appetizers and an entree can be had for under $10, which is a pretty good deal considering the variety available. At the Thai-Chinese eatery, you can enjoy wonton soup and follow up with famous "drunken noodles." Or, you can try Oriental chicken soup and then sample barbecue pork. Either way, you're certain to be satisfied. Meatless eggrolls please vegetarians as well.

SOUTH DENVER. A pleasant waitstaff and consistently well-prepared Greek dishes have made Yanni's the talk of the town. The menu encourages diners to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Defined Yanni style, that means goodies like moussaka, lamb chops, dolmades, and tiropita, an intricate mixture of three cheeses wrapped in phyllo. During pleasant weather, you can enjoy patio dining and leg of lamb cooked on the outdoor spit. Of course, you can't leave without trying the obligatory baklava.

COMMONS PARK. Mexico, Latin America, and Asia sit down to dinner at this bright, busy establishment. The menu is a veritable traffic jam of cuisines and flavors – ceviches, sushi, tiraditos (Peruvian sashimi), dim sum, and various Asian-Latin entrees. Perfect dishes for a first date, lemon-wasabi lobster potstickers or blue crab and avocado salad will get you talking (and sharing). Desserts are equally as enticing and as varied, but it's hard to go wrong with a chocolate chai parfait or a slice of lime cheesecake accompanied by mango sorbet.
