COMMONS PARK. Located across Commons Park from the bustle of LoDo, this little shop provides well-crafted, savory sandwiches and satisfying soups. Grab a seat on the pleasant patio if the weather permits, and sample the chipotle turkey sandwich with yellow peppers, spicy cheese, and chipotle-infused mayonnaise. Freshly-grilled paninis include Jamaican jerk chicken and Emily's roast beef and brie. A decent variety of salads and soups completes the menu; the spinach, feta, and bacon salad is a unity of pleasing tastes and textures.

CITY PARK. Plan ahead and ask for a doggie bag as soon as you enter, because you're certain to get more food than you can handle. From brisket to chicken to pork, you're sure to find a plate to please. The cafe also serves a mean fried catfish platter and must-have peach cobbler, so sweet and gooey you'll think it came straight from a Southern kitchen. Sweet potato pie draws raves as well. Take-out is available.

SOUTH DENVER. This deli transports a slice of the Big Apple to Denver, and regulars applaud the variety of fresh, delicious deli foods. The menu includes everything from bagels and lox to cheese blintzes and stuffed cabbage. Hefty, well-filled sandwiches are also terrific, and rich, satisfying desserts are as good as you'd imagine. Friendly service is a plus, and from the walls, black-and-white photos of smiling, previous guests greet diners.

GOLDEN. Quintessentially American, this Golden treasure recollects a bygone age with antique furnishings and gentrified decor. In fact, the country club setting seems to have leapt right from the pages of a Gilded Age novel. Traditional fare earns nods thanks to house specialties like lobster Thermidor, veal Oscar, and prime rib; locals also laud the appetizer sampler plate – a gourmet platter that features smoked salmon, pâté, and cheeses. An impeccable wine list – recognized by "Wine Spectator" – rounds out the experience. Enjoy a post-dinner drink by the fire in the cozy bar area. Indeed, if your intent is to make a good impression, Briarwood is the ideal place to reserve a table.

LAKEWOOD. Got the midday munchies? Head to this casual pizzeria for a scrumptious, brick oven-baked slice or two. Bring friends and split a delectable pie, or opt for an 8" individual size. With varieties like the Portofino (spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and black olives) and the Mezzo Mezzo (half red sauce, half white sauce), it's hard to go wrong. Daily lunch specials from 11am to 3pm include deals like two single-topping slices with a bottomless soda for $6. Don't forget an order of hot, buttery garlic knots to get you through the afternoon!

CAPITOL HILL. Probably better known for its fantastic breakfasts, WaterCourse also serves delicious, filling lunches. The high-ceilinged, pleasant room quickly becomes noisy as the lively noontime crowd files in, so be prepared to wait unless you're willing to grab a chair at the community table. The place serves vegetarian food done right, neither aspiring to imitate meat nor lacking in flavor. The tempeh scaloppini plate, served with mashed potatoes and greens, is mouthwatering. If you still have room, opt for a slice of vegan chocolate cake.

NORTH DENVER. A self-service lunch stop, Yorkshire boasts some of the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic – or in Denver, at least. Fresh filets (fried to perfection) can be had at rock bottom prices, along with chips done UK-style. Don't forget to sprinkle them with vinegar to add extra zing! The simple decor directs focus to the tasty seafood and spuds coming from the kitchen. Chicken, shellfish, and children's options are also available.
Looking for light and tasty dishes with a quick turn-around time? Or perhaps a power lunch to close the deal? Here, you’ll find the right setting for either! An assortment of decors from casual and sporty to sophisticated and businesslike. You may also find the option of ordering take-out food.
