In business for over 80 years, this local playhouse has an international reputation. The Des Moines Playhouse hosted the first International Community Theater Festival and continually entertains over 40,000 patrons yearly. The theater seats 450 people, and recently presented productions of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Jesus Christ Superstar." The playhouse also offers several community classes and camps through its educational efforts. Call ahead for listings and prices.

For 20 years, this spectacular performance arena has been entertaining Des Moines audiences. The Civic Center is home to two stages. The Main Hall seats over 2,500 and features a proscenium stage. The Stoner Studio Theater provides an intimate setting and can handle 200 attendees. The center books a variety of entertainment groups, including touring Broadway companies. Throughout the year, various local groups such as the Drama Workshop and the Des Moines Symphony use the facility.
