DESTIN. Expansive windows looking out across Lake Regatta and the golf course add a pastoral note to fine dining. Inside the clubhouse, this restaurant, with its nautical accents and top-notch cuisine, prepares incredible steaks and seafood dishes that make lunch time a special treat. Trigger fish pan-fried in a sunflower seed crust is light and flaky, while grilled filet mignon topped with sautéed mushrooms and a Burgundy wine sauce offers a rich alternative. A selection of wines and liquors provides a nice complement to the entrees, and a 7000-square-foot deck is available for special events. In addition, a Sunday brunch offers a special menu and features shrimp and grits, Eggs Hussard (toasted French baguette, topped with Canadian bacon, a rich red wine sauce, tomato, two poached eggs, and Béarnaise sauce), as well as burgers and salads.

DESTIN. AJ's is everyone's favorite place in Destin; the parking lot alone gives credence to that fact. The restaurant section of the complex, down by the harbor, is marked by a cascading water wall and fishing floats hanging overhead. The dining room gleams with varnished wood, and windows are open to the breezes and the view. Jimmy Buffett tunes play in the background. On the menu, seafood is prominent and is served grilled, fried and steamed. There's a selection of oysters as well, along with pasta dishes and a ribeye. The catch of the day, unloaded from the docks just outside of the restaurant, is guaranteed fresh. If you're in the area, make sure you give the place a try, but come early. No reservations are accepted.

DESTIN. Tucked between the harbor and a sprawling magnolia tree, the Snapper is open to sea breezes and the call of seagulls. Inside the vaulted space, ceiling fans stir the air, and laughter floats from table to table. Guests try out seafood po' boys, fresh fish and smoked pork and ribs, or they opt for one of the blue plate specials, which range from crab cakes to Caribbean chicken and a vegetable plate. Throughout the space, diners have views of the water and boats sailing into the marina. In the evenings, live bands play both upstairs and at the bar downstairs.

DESTIN. Unassuming and relaxed, this simple, waterside eatery doesn't buy into the commercialization found so frequently at beach resorts. It doesn't pretend to be fancy, and it doesn't expect its clientele to be either. Grafitti marks the walls, and physical comforts are at a minimum. It does, however, have a great view of the harbor and is known for its fresh, cold oysters. The cheeseburgers, huge and juicy, aren't too shabby either, and the gumbo is award-winning. Live music during the week adds an energetic note of local flavor.
