No matter your interest, passion, or hobby, it's likely that Detroit offers a festival or event that celebrates it. A vast array of annual activities brings the city out in style, and from sports to music, the offerings are lively and well-attended. The Michigan State Fair is a summer tradition, as it has been for generations, enticing visitors with agricultural exhibits, concerts, and games and rides galore. The North American International Car Show is also a long-lived attraction, a big deal in the auto industry that brings lots of tourism dollars and attention to the Motor City. America's Thanksgiving Day Parade is much-loved as well. Held since 1924, it nurtures real community spirit and family-friendly atmosphere. On the cultural front, Detroit Festival of the Arts is widely regarded as one of the city's best festivals thanks to its broad repertoire of art and activities, not to mention food and entertainment. As far as music goes, Detroit has a strong reputation for soulful sounds. That heritage is in full effect at Motor City PraiseFest, a gospel mainstay, and at Detroit International Jazz Festival, a free music extravaganza. In addition, Detroit Hoedown kicks things up a notch with its terrific slate of country music stars. Heritage is also the focus of the city's many celebrations that honor cultural diversity, including the Arab & Chaldean Festival, the Caribbean International Festival, and the African World Festival.
